Our commitment to building and operating buildings to the highest environmental standards

Sustainable by Design

Sustainability. Resiliency. Future proofing. All words you hear a lot these days. But while others are just getting up to speed, we’ve been in the business of creating a better tomorrow for a long time. We have consistently been pioneers in the space -developing the first LEED Gold for New Construction high-rise building in New York City with Hearst Tower, the first LEED Gold certified commercial building in the Southern Hemisphere, and the first multi-use high-rise to be TRUE certified in the world. The list goes on, but it’s just the start.

The business of creating a better tomorrow

Whether it’s a potential new development or a vintage asset, a systematic consideration of the environmental impact is embedded in our investment and management process. Throughout our business we create future-proof solutions aimed at maximizing energy conservation and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions.

Sustainability is in our DNA

You can see it in Brasilia where we have a 197-foot-tall green wall – the largest of its kind in Latin America. You can feel it in the air at Rockefeller Center, where our innovative ice storage system helped reduce annual CO2 emissions by 314 tons. As a Fitwel Champion, we ensure the health and wellbeing of our occupants is a top priority- from the filtration systems of our largest properties, all the way down to the buttons on an elevator. Not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it can unlock value for our partners, investors, and customers.

Healthy buildings

Our better today will mean a better tomorrow. Beginning in 2016, we build all new properties to a minimum LEED Silver certification with a target of LEED Gold or higher. We are committed to both the United Nation’s Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI), and to achieving net zero operational carbon emissions across our global portfolio by 2050 or sooner. Sustainability is at the core of what we do, and our solutions will empower communities to move forward with comfort and confidence.
