We are a global company, but we believe in being part of our communities at a very local level. We are committed to social initiatives, working with and building up the neighborhoods we are in because we value long-term relationships, both as good neighbors and as good business.
A breath of fresh air for NYC public schools
In New York City, where we have been headquartered for more than a century, we also had a chance to help during the COVID pandemic. We’ve worked with the New York City Department of Education and the United Federation of Teachers to upgrade the air quality within New York’s Public Schools. The firm provided a team to inspect public schools’ central air distribution systems, devise new strategies, and retrofit buildings with new air filtration systems. In 2020 this included schools such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Educational Complex in Manhattan and Herbert Lehman High School in the Bronx. Additionally, Tishman Speyer has leveraged a relationship to access 107,000 filers for the entire Department of Education system, working pro bono to provide a road map that is scalable.
Vaccine production in São Paulo
We have had an office in Brazil since 1995. So when the government of São Paulo called on us to retrofit a facility in the Butantan Institute to begin producing the COVID-19 vaccine, we stepped in as the project manager, pro bono. We are very proud to help and be a part of the local vaccination effort. The construction of the new Butantan plant started in November 2020. This 11,000 square meter space, which will be ready in 2022, will be capable of producing 100 million COVID-19 vaccination doses per year, and also other vaccines and medicines in the future.
Impact around the world
As a company, we have a culture of giving back to our local communities and making an impact in our cities. Every year we organize volunteer days in each of our regions around the globe, partnering with local groups. From building kits for homeless youth in Los Angeles to maintenance at a refugee camp in Berlin; cleaning up a local park in London to renovating classrooms in Sao Paulo. Our philanthropic efforts and social initiatives are a fundamental part of our company - deeply rooted in our DNA - and our employees are fervently committed to supporting local efforts.
