A deeper look at : MesseTurm

In 1985, the trade fair–organizing company Messe Frankfurt held a design competition to create a new office tower (German: turm) to be the flagship of the convention and exposition complex on the city fairgrounds in Frankfurt, Germany.

The Property

The architectural firm of Murphy/Jahn was awarded the project for its design of a 70-story, 69,700-square-meter skyscraper, and Messe Frankfurt tapped Tishman Speyer to develop the project.

Our Role

After a careful study of the building’s technical aspects, Tishman Speyer realized that significant capital cost savings and efficiency improvements could be achieved by a redesign of the building’s core, structure, safety, mechanical, electrical and elevator systems. A fast-track construction schedule was developed, enabling early occupancy and completion in a record time of 27 months.

The Outcome

In MesseTurm, Tishman Speyer created a world-class office facility and a signature for the city of Frankfurt. High-profile tenants, including Goldman Sachs, the Deutsche Bundesbank, Credit Suisse First Boston and others, were attracted to occupy the building’s 61,700 square meters of rentable office space. Upon its completion, the 257-meter building became the tallest in Europe and set a new quality standard for all subsequent commercial developments in the city.
