Tishman Speyer Signs Large Renewal/Expansion at MetLife Building

New York, NY December 8, 2010

Tishman Speyer announced today that international law firm Winston & Strawn, LLP has signed a 15-year lease renewal and expansion at New York’s MetLife Building at 200 Park Avenue. The firm will now occupy approximately 263,344 square feet at the iconic building, expanding by approximately 18,628 square feet after a 43,806-square-foot expansion just five months ago.

The firm has been a tenant at the building since 1995, while a predecessor firm had been there since 1986.

Stretching from East 43rd Street to East 45th Street with direct access to Grand Central Terminal, the 58-story structure opened in 1963 as the renowned Pan Am Building. From the start, it has been one of New York City’s most famous and recognized buildings, and home to many large and well-known corporations. Fully modernized, it consists of 3 million square feet of office and retail space with an adjacent six-story parking garage and many first-class on-site and nearby amenities. With the agreement announced today, the MetLife Building is 96 percent leased.

“We’re very pleased that Winston & Strawn has chosen to remain and expand at the MetLife Building, and we look forward to continuing to serve the firm’s office space needs during the coming years. This transaction illustrates the very special position that this iconic property commands in the New York office marketplace, and we intend to maintain and enhance that position as the market continues its recovery,” commented Tishman Speyer Co-CEOs Jerry Speyer and Rob Speyer.

Winston & Strawn was represented by Mitchell Steir, John Mambrino and Matthew Barlow of Studley. Building ownership was represented by Meghan Sheehan of Tishman Speyer.
