Department of Veterans Affairs Signs to Lease 122ksf at Tishman Speyer Property in NoMa

Washington, D.C. November 4, 2010

Tishman Speyer announced today that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has signed a pair of 10-year leases totaling 122,756 square feet at 1100 First Street NE, which is located in the NoMa submarket area of Washington, D.C. The leases commence in July 2011.

The lease transactions announced today illustrate the recent emergence of NoMa as one of Washington, D.C.’s prime office submarkets, also as the demand for Class A office space in the District has continued to outperform many other U.S. cities. Anticipating such demand, Tishman Speyer delivered the first phase of 1100 First Street NE in 2009. The Department of Veterans Affairs joins the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) at the property.

1100 First Street NE is an all-glass building designed by award-winning architecture firms Krueck & Sexton and Gensler, the latter being the architect of record. It features striking contemporary artwork in the lobby that can be seen from the street, created by world-famous UK artist David Batchelor. The building was the first in NoMa to earn the U.S. Building Council’s LEED® Gold certification.

The Department of Veterans Affairs was represented in the transaction by GSA. Dan Dooley and Scott Franklin of Tishman Speyer represented building ownership.
